My Writing Day

A few months back, Rob McLennan reached out to me and asked if I would write a piece for his blog, "My (Small Press) Writing Day", which plays with the format of The Guardian's occasional feature, "My Writing Day." Rob's blog is "for those of us who might never appear in The Guardian." It's a really cool series, and I'm super thrilled to be a part of it. You can read about my writing day here, (on the importance of writing poems while nannying, and being a Tom Petty look-alike).

IMPROMPTU #101: Earth Offering

Once for each thing. Just once; no more.
And we too, just once. And never again.
But to have been this once, completely,
even if only once: to have been
at one with the earth,
seems beyond undoing.

Rainer Maria Rilke

Some Earth Day love sent to me this morning by my mom via Adriene Mishler of Yoga with Adriene.

This morning I heard a talk at the Vancouver Unitarian church by a Metis woman named Aline LaFlamme called "All My Relations." It was all about our relationships to each other and thereby the earth and nature, and how we are all relations, all connected in the circle of life. It was really beautiful.

So in light of it being Earth Day, your prompt for today is to write an offering to the earth. <3

IMPROMPTU #100: 100 Words for 100 Days!

WE MADE IT TO 100 DAYS!!! I love writing this blog. I love when people send me things they've written or write to tell me one of my prompts inspired something silly or weird or powerful or therapeutic. This is all I ever could have asked for. Happy to share this space with you. <3

Without further ado, here is your 100th prompt:

Write a 100-word story or poem (or whatever!)

Include:

1. The words magnet, spring, restless
2. The colour green
3. Something rising
4. A mouth
