A generative writing space offering prompt-based, timed exercises and poetic experiments, with opportunities to share your work.
The Strathcona Poetry Studio is a space for poets and poetry-lovers to gather, connect, and write in community. Workshops are open to adults (18+) of all experience levels, grounded in the belief that poetry is for everyone. Whether you’re just beginning or have years of experience, whether you write casually or are working towards a manuscript, you'll find a place here.
Tuesday Night Write is the Strathcona Poetry Studio's virtual community—an ongoing weekly generative space. We will read and discuss a wide range of poems, and practise improvisational writing, learning to appreciate and trust in poetry’s emotional pull. We will practise free writing and writing from prompts in order to enter a flow state, a space where you can say “yes” to your ideas more easily, and generate material in a safe, welcoming, and casual environment. There will be an open invitation at the end of the class to share what you’ve written.
How to prepare:
Be sure to come prepared with your preferred writing tools, whether that's a word processor, pen and paper, ink and quill—just kidding (or not, you do you). We will be gathering virtually, but there are ways to promote a feeling of "togetherness," and I intend to be mindful of this in my facilitation. I encourage you to keep your camera on as much as possible. I also invite you to “set a vibe” in your space: light a candle, make a cup of tea, dim the lights. This is your time to prioritize self-expression and self-care.
Testimonials:
“The Strathcona Poetry Studio reignited my love of my poetry and gave me a community of poets to work with. Whether you’re an experienced poet looking for some extra inspiration or just getting into writing, I would deeply recommend this studio! ”
“The Strathcona Poetry Studio was a door into a wider community of poets, something everyone is always hungry for in Vancouver. Collaborating and witnessing poetic creation under Ellie’s facilitation was vital for me in developing confidence towards my early drafts and ideas; I felt a shift in how I read my poetry and approached feedback. How lucky I am to sit with other writers in this space, curated by Ellie, with the goal of nurturing not just the poems, but the poet. ”

Join us for an afternoon of creative writing and movement.
Through writing prompts, guided exercises, and optional free movement, we’ll explore how language and the body inform one another. You might dance a poem, write an embodied memory, or discover the shape of a feeling you don’t yet have words for. Together we’ll experiment with how words live in the body, how movement can generate language, and how attention to sensation can open new creative pathways.
This workshop offers a playful, low-pressure space to explore self-expression and presence, and to practice taking up space—both on the page and in the room. No experience necessary. Curiosity required.
Testimonials:
“Write/Move was a joy and a treasure. I left each class feeling creatively nourished and buzzing with possibility. Zoe and Ellie have hit upon a rare alchemy that anyone inspired to express themselves through creative writing or movement should experience.”
“It is rare that a Monday feels so anticipated and relieving—yet this is how I felt every week in March for the inaugural Write/Move workshop led by Zoe and Ellie. The hardships of being Human disappeared for a beautiful 2.5 hours every week as we explored the corners of imagination together. I’m talking about experiencing pencil on paper, body movement, splayed objects, projected red triangles, and string tied around a lot of fingers. It doesn’t matter if any of that makes sense—all you have to do is say YES to this offering. You’ll come out the other side more ready for the world than you were before.”
